MindUniversity is excited to support Building Bridges—a teacher-led mentoring and professional development initiative in K-12 education.

Building Bridges
"There is a profound gap between the knowledge and skills most students learn in school and the knowledge and skills they need in typical 21st century communities."

American K-12 school administrators face an aging American teacher population, an increasingly fast-paced technological world and 30-50 percent of new staff leaving the profession before their fifth year. In some urban systems teacher attrition is 75 percent.

Building Bridges

For the most part, America’s teaching culture is extremely isolated. Young teachers point out the emotional demands of teaching and the lack of mentoring and instructional support as primary reasons for leaving early. Teachers who stay on refer to their early years as a process of learning and surviving. Opportunities to share best practices and collaborate with other professionals are rare for most American K-12 teachers.

The emergence of Internet technology holds promise to break this isolation, but, in all too many cases, has added to the confusion. Many experienced teachers have difficulty finding time to learn new technologies and prefer to use what has worked in the past. Younger teachers are open to Internet tools but don’t know how to best use them in the classroom or where to go for ideas.

Building Bridges

Building Bridges is a teacher-led mentoring and professional development initiative that builds public-partnerships to infuse 21st century skills in K-12 education. We are excited to help bridge lines of communication between America’s teachers; we believe that teacher excellence is the key to student success.
